This doctor is a quack. I got my widsom teeth removed in October of 2025. I went in for pain on only one of my teeth and he convinced me to remove all 4 at once even though the others were fine. As others have said, he comes as off as friendly and energetic at first but does not take any concerns about pain seriously. I had prolonged numbing in my face for months after my surgery I was terrified it was going to be permanent. I went in for a follow up that I had to schedule myself a month later because I was so scared my face was still numb. He quickly turned the issue onto me and said I must have not followed his instructions and taken care of myself properly. During my surgery, my partner waited in the waiting room to take me home and stated that no one came to talk to him about how to take care of me post surgery and I was simply given a piece of paper about what to eat afterwards. Absolutely no after care instructions were given or told. When we went to pick up my medication at the pharmacy the pharmacist was confused at what the doctor had called in and made sure to tell me NOT to mix these medications or I would be sick. Why would Dr. Nguyen prescribe me medications that do not work well together? I was in so much pain that I took the medications anyway and was violently ill like the pharmacist said I would be. When telling Dr. Nguyen this at my follow up he was defensive, said the pharmacist must not know what they were talking about, and said I was probably sick because I didn't follow his after care instructions right. This man should absolutely not be doing any kind of dental care on anyone. Do not trust him.

Dr. Nguyen is a great oral surgeon doing important work in Hilo. He cares about his patients and community and it shows. I had to get very complex procedures done that I was very anxious about, he saw me quickly and did a terrific job. I am very grateful to Dr. Nguyen and his staff.

Avoid at all costs!!!. Before my appointment for a CBCT (3D) x-ray, I confirmed with United Healthcare that it was covered. I passed this along to the office and asked them to get preauthorization — they said they would. I live nearly 3 hours away, and when I arrived, they claimed insurance wouldn't cover it and had me pay upfront instead of actually preauthorizing like I'd asked. I paid rather than argue. Six hours of driving for nothing — while filling out intake paperwork, I was told the x-ray machine was broken and I'd need to reschedule. This is something they could have told me before I ever left home. I was refunded, but only after the fact. When I called their office manager the next day, she was still confused about my coverage and hadn't even been told the machine was down. Unprofessional and inconsiderate — they showed no regard for my time.

This dentist performed a simple wisdom tooth extraction on my wife on February 4, 2026. It is almost TWO MONTHS LATER and she STILL has a golf ball sized infection in her tooth socket due to him pulling a tooth without clearing the infection first. Every dentist we have seen since has told us everything was done wrong initially but Dr Nguyen likes to gaslight his patients and tells them it’s their bodies “healing process.” Now I have to take her to an oral surgeon in Hilo, on the other side of the island from us because I don’t trust this quack to touch my family again. Patient BEWARE!!

5 stars absolutely no doubt about it. Dr Nguyen helped me 3 years ago with a tooth extraction which saved my life pretty much. A flawless performance that was painless and helped me get back towards good health. Today I got a second extraction, and it was great to get it done the same day I went in. I knew I could trust the process like before so today was better. Highest regards and professional and highly recommended. Owe you guys so much thanks, thanks again.
