THE STAFF ARE TERRIBLE!! RUDEE! I waited until the day of my appointment. Began to drive two hours to the hospital, as I’m on the way less then 2 hours before my appointment I receive the confirmation for my appointment. 20 minutes later I’m called and told my appointment is canceled. I ask to talk to someone higher up because I was curious if someone else could see my daughter and the Assistant director of patient services Janet shapais. HUNG UP IN MY FACE without even rescheduling appointment. I was not swearing nor rude. Then when someone called me back to take my complaint she was extremely immature and made it seem like it was my fault. To end my review your staff are terrible and need to work on making your patients feel heard and understood. I hope reaches the right people. They seriously speak to you like you are a two year old. It’s so hard to get through to someone and they just are blatantly disrespectful. Will never be coming here again.

I asked 3 times where to get info to get delta dental....thats something to definitely report to the insurance company. You couldn't provide where to get dental coverage (that i want to pay for out of pocket). I even asked Dr. TRONE. I guess Dr. Trone doesnt relize thats a huge insurance violation. Daniela the intern I had was asking medical questions in an open office thats a huge HIPPA violation I would say several since the adjunct innovation center has sound proof rooms while the dental office is committing massive HIPPA violations.

I had seen Dr Shur and some students working under his wing, Giovanna and Elle. Giovanna and Elle are going to be great doctors like Dr Shur. They all provided me with outstanding work and care. I wish I could leave 10 stars here. They will all forever be in my good graces. I’m so grateful for them all.

I was recommended by Portland Community Dental to take up my services with UNE-OHC since their patients have the best luck on their dental services. I have called in early December 2025 to take my business there and they fit me in last Thursday. They treated me well, and they were very knowledgeable and professional.
I would've given them five stars---except I had to dock a star due to the students taking a photo of me, which I didn't ask nor consent. I needed to be honest and let them know I don't like my photo at all. and I have absolutely no desire to ever see a photo of me. But the only worst thing is the student treating me like a criminal about to be processed for booking at the penetentary---referring /labeling a photo as a mug shot, and I am not a criminal. Therefore I don't even think that's funny.
Despite the unwanted photo they took of me and their reference of the photo as a mug shot and their brief treatment of me as a convict being booked, they were really looking out for my best interests at heart. Though I have done everything right as far as my own oral health is concerned, I have learned that I have sustained a cracked tooth. Now that I am done with the screening, which is my first appointment---ironically as a first-time patient, my next appointment will be in two months, and it's for a comprehensive oral exam.
Hopefully my next appointment---which is slated in two months will be better, and hopefully they won't make an unnecessary mistake of labeling their photo of me as a mug shot or treat me like an inmate of a prison. If they treat me better and not make any wisecracks about the photo, which I am reluctant to take---knowing they'd exploit me, then I would give them five stars.

Just drove 3.5 hrs for urgent walk-in dental care at UNE, for nothing. Got there on time, stood on line with 3 others, and as I waited the woman at the check-in put up a sign with 'urgent care full'. She suggested I stay over at a hotel, and try the walk-in dental care again. Given the profound lack of dental care in Maine, couldn't UNE at least have a better system for taking people in on an urgent basis?

About Une Oral Health Center
UNE Oral Health Center is the clinical teaching center for the University of New England's College of Dental Medicine, located on the Portland Campus for the Health Sciences. Dental students provide comprehensive oral health care under the supervision of licensed faculty dentists and hygienists, with services including dental implants evaluated on a case by case basis as part of its teaching mission. Because it operates on a university semester schedule, appointment availability can be affected by academic breaks and student schedules.
Patients considering dental implants should know that this clinic evaluates each case for clinical and educational appropriateness, and treatment is not guaranteed to be available for every patient or every request. The website states that the center does not offer certain implant-related services, including All-on-4 upper dentures, implant-supported partial dentures, or the restoration or removal of implants placed by another provider. The clinic is fee-for-service, with fees generally 30 to 50 percent lower than private practices, and it participates with Northeast Delta Dental and MaineCare, though payment plans and sliding-scale fees are not available.
